As Airlie Beach locals, we can’t help but think we live in one of the most beautiful and fun filled areas of Australia. Our guests often ask us for recommendations on things to do so we thought we’d put together this list of 5 of our favourite activities. We’ve even included a couple of secret locations that only we locals know about in Airlie Beach!
Airlie Beach Lagoon
Located right in the middle of Airlie Beach, this fantastic free public park and swimming pool is popular with both locals and tourists. It’s easy to waste away an entire day here and there’s something for everyone – a sandy, stinger free beach, a children’s pool, beautiful landscaped gardens, as well as peaceful grassy knolls on which to sunbathe or read a book. And the best bit? It’s free!
Airlie Beach Markets
Airlie Beach Markets are held every Saturday on the Esplanade. On offer is a selection of clothing, jewellery and craft, as well as a selection of fresh produce. If you would like a souvenir of your stay in Airlie Beach, this is the place to visit. Alternatively, why not try a camel ride on the beach?!
Cedar Creek Falls
One of the hidden treasures of the Whitsunday region, Cedar Creek Falls is a short 20 minutes’ drive from Airlie Beach. Locals will tell you that the wet season is when the waterfall is at its most spectacular, however the natural swimming hole can be enjoyed all year round. An easy bush walk will take you to the top of the waterfall to enjoy the stunning view or simply relax and enjoy a picnic lunch in the sun.
Hideaway Bay & Dingo Beach
Just a stone throw away from Airlie Beach, these beaches are equally as stunning and free from holiday crowds. To reach Hideaway Bay you pretty much pass through Dingo Beach, so it is easy to visit both beaches in the one trip. Lunch options include a couple of cafes at Hideaway Bay or the fabulous pub right on the beach front at Dingo Beach. The fresh seafood here is unbeatable!
Take a Boat Tour or Charter a Yacht
The magnificent Whitsunday islands are best experienced by sea. Be captivated by the brilliant blue and turquoise waters, rich with sea life including dolphins, whales, turtles and tropical fish. There are a number of experienced local operators to choose from in Airlie Beach, or charter your own yacht with Queensland Yacht charters.
