May 2021 has been a HUGE month for BIG4 Whitsundays Tropical Eco Resort!
It started with the sound of a reel screaming while fighting to land the biggest fish and ended with the roar of a V8 engine block…
So let’s start this month’s blog at the beginning with the Rippa Rods Whitsundays Family Fishing Competition – our first annual in house fishing competition.
The weekends anglers rolled in the afternoon of Friday 30th April 2021 – set up camp, met with registration, enjoyed a family movie on out outdoor screen, fish & chips from Tropical Treats Cafe, prepped their boats and fishing tackle and got ready for the Rippa Weekend ahead. Anglers fished from from first light through to early afternoon over both days of the competition, with each catch only being bigger than the current leaders by mere cms. Once the final entries we in it was time to reel in and get ready for the awards night. Final scores were announced, prizes were awarded to 1st, 2nd & 3rd for each division and category followed by a night of live entertainment and delicious food.
We had a fantastic time over our first Rippa Rods Whitsundays Family Fishing Competition weekend, and plans are already underway for 2022. We’d like to thank everyone who entered and participated over this Rippa Weekend and we look forward to seeing you all for the next one!
Straight after Rippa Rods, BIG4 Whitsundays Tropical Eco Resort owners Aaron & Angie flew down to the Gold Coast to attended the 2021 CPAQ Conference and Awards Night where they were presented with the 2021 Refurbishment Award!!
May has also seen the start of our new Tiny Tots Playgroup, where local families can come down with the youngest members of their family and enjoy FREE use of the Kids Facilities. Our Tropical Treats Cafe is also open during this time, serving delicious hot coffee and some yummy homemade chia pods and more!
Our Winter Season Program kicked off a month earlier this year, with so many friendly faces taking advantage of our BIG4 Members Manic May Special – Pay 7 get 7 FREE on all powered sites. The program consists of classic movie nights on our big outdoor screen, quiz nights, Tropical Treats Cafe opened 3 nights per week with a delicious dinner menu each night, live entertainment and our new Airlie’s Hidden Gems (you’ll have to book your stay to find out more!)
We ended May with a thundering roar and dazzling display of classic cars from Whitsundays Cruisin Car Club. Locals were treated to one of the biggest car and bike shows the town of Airlie Beach has seen, with the club putting on a magnificent show & shine with Coral Sea Marina as their backdrop on 29th May 2021. Jumping castles, mulitple food vendors, rocket cover racing and more were also there to be enjoyed by all who came down.
Once the show wrapped up, the day was not quite done, it was time to head back to BIG4 Whitsundays Tropical Eco Resort for an afternoon of activities for the kids! We hosted our legendary Ninja Warrior Time Challenge on our inflatable course followed by 2 rounds of Lego Masters where the kids had 5 minutes to build a table sized crocodile and more with their team mates! Once the sun had set it was time for a night of Op Shop Fancy Dress, Pulled Beef rolls, Awards and Live Entertainment. A fantastic night had by all and we can’t wait for the next one!
And that concludes our Manic May Adventures! With a big year ahead and more fun to be had, we will keep everyone updated with new events and activities on our social media platforms.
The staff at BIG4 Whitsundays Tropical Eco Resort would like to wish Aaron & Angie and very Happy 5 year Park Anniversary! Our amazing owners bought this little slice of paradise on 30th May 2016 and have transformed it into the beautiful tropical oasis it is today for so many to enjoy! We’ve popped a few photos of the transformation along the way.
